Yes. Under the Status of Forces Agreement you never registered with a German Meldeamt, so no deregistration certificate exists for you. Providers accept a copy of your PCS orders instead, and § 60 TKG gives you a one-month notice period when you move abroad.

The direct debits continue, and a German contract does not end after its minimum term — it renews with one month's notice until somebody ends it. Once your bank account closes, failed-debit fees accrue on both sides, and collection costs typically arrive around month six.

Does a German speeding ticket affect my USAREUR licence?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and the German notice does not mention it. German police notify the Military Police, who notify your commander, who assesses U.S. Forces points. Twelve points in twelve months or eighteen in twenty-four costs the licence for a year — and a suspension covers every vehicle in Germany, including rentals.

Not if you are covered by the Status of Forces Agreement — but the exemption only applies once you apply for it. It is €18.36 a month otherwise, and the Beitragsservice does not grant it retroactively as a matter of course.
